The 2012 Drum Corps International Tour schedule has been announced and anticipation continues to build and excitement is running high as the corps' first appearance at the San Antonio regional is included in the tentative plan.
After spring training in ends on June 22, the corps' first performance of the season will be at the Tournament of Stars in Bayonne, NJ. Jersey Surf Executive Director, Bob Jacobs, said, "We are thrilled for the opportunity to debut this year's production of 'Bridgemania' in historic Veteran's Stadium for the current and former members of the Bridgemen family. The support from the Bridgemen organization has been overwhelming and we are doing everything possible to make them proud and to celebrate the legacy and spirit of the legendary corps from Bayonne."
The corps heads north and east for the first part of the summer tour, returning to home base for the annual Jersey Surf Family, Friends and Alumni day on July 8. After a four day "breather" to do such things as laundry, hitting the beach, re-packing and visiting non-drum corps friends, the tour resumes on July 13 with a swing south and west. Travel plans take the corps to shows in Texas, Mississippi, Georgia and Virginia.
Even though the corps is not sponsoring a drum corps event this season, August commences with what can nearly be considered Jersey Surf "Home Shows" for the number of families and alumni from the area; first, with the West Chester (PA) show on August 1 and the DCI Eastern Classic in Allentown, PA on August 4 (with a quick trip to Massachusetts in- between). These events are always corps and fan favorites and expectations are high that there will be a great showing of support in eastern Pennsylvania in early August!
Plans are also underway for an alumni event to coincide with the Allentown show. From Allentown, the corps heads to the midwest for DCI finals week in Indianapolis. The Jersey Surf is looking forward to its most robust tour in the corps' 21 year history.
Tickets to both evenings of the DCI Eastern Classic in Allentown and to Prelims, Semi-finals and Finals at the DCI World Championships in Indianapolis are available in the preferred Jersey Surf block of seats. Tickets are limited and are on a first-come, first serve basis, and can be reserved by contacting Barry Surkin (barrysurkin@comcast.net).
